We have been busy finding equipment for the budget conscious video producer. We’ve discovered a huge amount of video ‘snobbery’ - with certain products being recommended, while others discounted simply because they are not a named brand, or even sometimes a particular product. In many cases, the ‘named’ product can be ten times the price of a similar but less well known brand.

The reality is that many of the budget products can be very useful, well made and produce excellent sound. The downside is that the factories that produce them are in the Far East, and produce them in batches. Once gone, there may never be any more. The lifespan of a product can be many years, but buying another in six months time may be impossible.

We have been searching and importing quality equipment - initially for our own needs, but the results have encouraged us to make a limited range of this equipment available to producers working to a budget - or as in our own case, working on projects likely to damage them. Using a £1000 microphone and breaking it is not an option for us - using a £100 microphone that sounds similar makes much better business sense.

However - reading about equipment isn’t that useful - we want you to listen to them, so you can download a short example of each microphone as an mp3 file so you can assess what it actually sounds like in use.
